HI, I’m Cynthia Somers.

Compliance expertise rooted in real-world experience.

I combine critical thinking, passion for innovation, and practical business know-how to help organizations manage data and technology responsibly

A journey that started with public health — and never stopped evolving.

My compliance journey began when I did my graduate work (MPH) at CU Anschutz, with a focus on Health Systems, Management & Policy. My academic research took place at Children’s Hospital Colorado, where I traversed extensive privacy protocols in order to access sensitive patient data and also collaborated on a technology-based CMS Innovation model.

This led to my role as the consulting Privacy Officer at Connect for Health Colorado (the state’s online marketplace for health insurance) and I joke that I should have received a second master’s in IT as a result of my work on this groundbreaking project.  Here I learned how to build a secure and compliant website from the ground up that was able to connect to government systems containing highly sensitive and classified data under a strict timeline and public scrutiny.

Since then, I have worked with multiple organizations developing and auditing compliance programs. My clients include start-ups, non-profits, higher education institutions, government entities, and large global corporations.  My focus areas are NIST, HIPAA, GDPR, ICH-GCP, and multiple other acronyms that pose headaches for company executives. I maintain privacy certification (CIPP/US) and stay current on the ever-evolving regulatory landscape.

I am passionate about implementing innovative technology and processes that are compliant-by-design. I work with executive teams to define pragmatic compliance strategies, translate regulatory requirements into executable project plans, and deliver secure, scalable solutions that enable innovation while protecting people’s data.

Outside of work, I am an active Coloradan and enjoy biking and skiing.  When I am not outdoors, I volunteer at Children’s Hospital Colorado and serve on the Dean’s Advisory Board for the Colorado School of Public Health.

Innovation is the ability to see change as an opportunity — not a threat.
